Here is a preview of some of the works by Nate Stottrup we will be featuring Tomorrow at Annie's Art and Frame for our January 12th Art Walk from 6 to 9pm. You can view more works by Nate at www.natestottrup.com. and deadendpress.org/about/origin-story/nate-stottrup.

Nate Stottrup

BIO: I grew up on a pig farm in Litchfield, Minnesota. I discovered comic books in first or second grade and became obsessed with Marvel comics. I have a poor sense of smell. I think texture is the most important quality in food. I live in Ravenna with two awesome roommates and a one-eyed cat.
RESUME: I studied printmaking, illustration and sculpture at Minnesota State University, Moorehead. I created mock-ups and prototypes for Screenlife, a board game company in Seattle. And also designed a board game which was later re-licensed as the less-than-thrilling Dilbert, Escape from Cubeville. I have been a member of Ballard’s printmaking community since 2004 and have shown work throughout the city, state and country. I also illustrate book and album covers, posters, t-shirts and packaging.  In January 2012, The Swamp Wampa, the first e-book featuring my illustrations was released.
MEDIUM/PROJECTS: I am printing away like a rabid hamster inbetween freelance illustration gigs and running Dead End Press.
ARTIST STATEMENT: For me, the most important aspect is to be open to what the image or the work wants to become.  It may become a wave moving across the surface of water, the small random cracks that occur in a desert landscape, the smooth yet pointed contradiction of a thorn, or the lonely oppression of monsters.
INFLUENCES: Paul Simon, Steve Jobs, Kaethe Kollwitz, Michael Barnes, Superman, The Phantom Tollbooth, Shel Silverstein, Edward Gorey, Dr. Seuss, Bruce Springsteen, Alberto Giacometti, Deborah Mae Broad and my parents.
HOBBIES: Throwing pennies in a cup from the couch. Chess. Tennis and raquetball. Random walks around the neighborhood at night with strangers. Video games.

Project Highlight: Keepsake Hinged frame.

In this fun project our customer wanted a way to display a photo and letter in separate frames while still keeping the keepsakes together. We proposed hinging two frames together with the same finish.  We chose a frame with a decorative finish for the photo on top and below the letter in a flat frame to allow the frames to rest together almost seamlessly. We were very happy with the results. (costumer will add photo)

With this style of hinged frame you can use it as a table top frame

or hang as a wall frame.

Photos of November artwalk featuring Kamari (mari) Ichimasu.

Below are a few pictures of November 10th's Artwalk artist Kamari (mari) Ichimasu premiering here stop motion animation Little Oze. We also had live music by rats in the grass.

A link to Little Oze's vimeo page.

Directed by Mari Ichimasu
Music by Tony Fantozzi

summary:
On a rainy day a mouse living alone suddenly recalls her far away home listening to the sound of rain dripping hard on the roof.  She decides to cook miso soup to comfort herself and remind herself of the taste of home. The process of making the soup brings her home back to life inside her heart.

artist statement:
Komari (Mari Ichimasu) is a Seattle based artist born in Tokyo Japan.  Attending art schools in Seattle, Tokyo, and Osaka, her main focuses are stop motion animation and illustration.  Working with a DIY mentality, Mari plays writer, director, builder, and animator when making videos.  Her illustrations are filled with majestically adorable furry creatures and expansive beautifully cold landscapes.  Mari’s imagination is deeper than the darkest watercolor in her palate.  Following the traditions of eastern european masters of animation, Mari builds every puppet and set piece by hand and paints her own backgrounds making every frame shot a one of a kind original.

I have been traveling the world in my imagination called Little Oze.
Anything I see, meet, listen to or feel on this endless trip, I visualize in my projects like writing in a memo pad or journal. There are some interesting views and stories that I can’t help but document.

Concepts often come from very small ordinary scenes in daily life that are often taken for granted.  My mission is to be the voice and deliver the beauty of everything with a small and quiet existence. ”
